Urban Glyphs was a website prototype developed for the Outdoor Exploratorium. Users post reports of Utility Service Alert markings that they find in the city streets to an interactive collaborative map. They can then explore the somewhat cryptic language of these markings by sorting them along a number of parameters, including tags, or keywords, supplied by the contributor.
design: the use of dark grey and simple block lettering is meant to suggest asphalt and utilitarian graphic style of street signs and public notices.
technical: Urban Glyphs was developed using Javascript ("AJAX"), PHP, MySQL, and the Google Maps API.
